Created in 1901 for the grand tables of the Russian Imperial Court, the Canopée bowl belongs to the realm of Baccarat’s most prestigious and confidential commissions, having never appeared in the Maison’s catalogue. It fully reflects the aesthetic of the Belle Époque, a moment of creative exuberance when the profusion and virtuosity of decoration were at their height. Its highly complex decoration is distinguished by rich cutting combining festoons, palmettes and rosettes, an ornamental vocabulary that would be revisited a few years later in the creation of the iconic Tsar glass.
